I'm looking to test drive some 1812 Russian games using Black Powder but don't want to buy yet another pricey supplement. Any thoughts on unit Stats or unit Traits for Kutuzov's troops in this campaign? Thanks in advance. |

I use Empire but have bumped up units a moral class on historical records just to make every unit different in quality. Likewise a few have been dropped as officers in some units were bad. Moscow Ing Rent for instance is up 1 class, Mariupol Hussars is another. |

Vlad, I'd suggest if you think you have a handle on what the Russian army was like from your own readings, then you can attribute your own special rules and modifiers. This is certainly what every edition and supplement encourages. If you are playing club games or points based games then there is likely a way of paying for it. Sounds like a fun project you have there. On the flip-side, the Clash of Eagles does cover a lo of armies across a significant time-span so it may me worth your while investing. I am about to myself. |

I second Vlad, CofE is worth buying, the author introduces new special rules as well as deploying the standard ones. An example is that Russian infantry are TOUGH FIGHTERS, but can only move on initiative to charge, change formation or facing. The pdf of CofE is currently only £7.50 GBP. all the best. |

I agree with Garry Willis – tough fighters but lack initiative |

thank you gentlemen. Before buying C of E I have done a test game giving Russians Tough, No Initiative and poor shooting – but also boosting their resilience to 4. These traits did give the advantages and disadvantages that felt right for the 1812 campaign – they can't do much moving forward but they are very hard to extricate if you attack them. |

I would suggest those characteristics are emblematic of Russian performance throughout the period – not just 1812. |
