Why are there napoleonic British flags and medieval wooden shields in front of guns?

Why do you feel the need to point these sort of things out?

I am most impressed with the game. Very nice terrain and armies.

I dunno. Maybe because they are wrong?

You have to look pretty closely to see that some of the flags are wrong.

You're one of those guys.

Did you check to see if the buttons are the right color? You're one of those guys.

If you mean that I know what I'm talking about, then you're right. And no, I really didn't have to look that close. That said, the person who put together this game did not post it. But if games are posted here, I'd hope they'd have some of the stuff in the ballpark, otherwise people repeat mistakes they see here. I understand that not everyone has the exact unit for any particular battle. But 1802 flags in 1778?

John the OFM26 Nov 2020 9:22 p.m. PST

The flag is blatantly obvious. If you care. MY Brits would never have a flag that originated in 1801. (It's the red saltire if St Patrick, if you must know. But I have a few Betsy Ross flags from back when I didn't know any better.)
I would never criticize anyone for that, since I gave my Guards Napoleonic flags, which they never would have carried.

If you can't pick nits on TMP, where can you?

John the OFM27 Nov 2020 8:21 a.m. PST

Exactly. Sometimes it's under the guise of "helping", but often it's a snotty superior "I know more than you do!" It's up to the reader to decide which. grin

I often make substitutions when I don't have the right troops. Our joke is "In tonight's show, the part of the 2nd Battalion of Guards is being played by the 64th Foot. Try the veal and tip your waitress."
This is in the privacy of the OFM's basement.
If I put on a game at a convention, where ERROR will frighten the horses and dismay the children, I try to be as accurate as possible. But if some ignorant snot tries to tell me that I have the wrong shade of buff for the facings of …. The Buffs, I'll say "You may be right. Look. The game starts in 20 minutes. Run down to the flea market and buy me figures you think are more accurate. Give them to me as a present and I'll let you play with them. If not, Bleeped text off."
That I believe is the mature way to handle it.
