The main task of the 48th independent Guards Reconnaissance Air Regiment was reconnaissance flight over West Germany. In case of war, the Soviet Carpathian Military District's Air Force would have relocated to Czechoslovakia from Kolomija airport whit Yak-27R 'Mangrove' type. The regiment's crew were not satisfied with the new high-speed reconnaissance aircraft type. There were structural defects, which were exacerbated by manufacturing defects, resulting in aviation accidents. These mistakes, of course, did not increase the popularity of the Yak-27R 'Mangrove' aircraft type among the Soviet pilots…"
