Thank you guys for all the practical information and suggestions you provided on the previous thread:

As a result, for Neanderthals I have ordered all the Pulp Figures Neanderthal packs, along with their predators pack; and for the newer humans (formerly known as Cromagnons), all the Copplestone cavemen packs, as well as a couple of the Foundry savage ancient German packs to even things out.

I have also purchased some Reaper cave bears, wolves and sabertooth cats.

Hrothgar: Thanks a million for your suggestion to make casualties attract predators, and add to the chaos. That is one I will definitely include in the game.

Any suggestions for a name? I was temporarily considering "Ug vs Uglee".

Did anyone mention the Wargames Illustrated set of Caveman rules btw?

Flashman: I never got my hands on a copy. What were they like?

You're welcome.

Atook Zug Zug Lana?

Norscaman26 Sep 2005 6:53 p.m. PST

How about Darwin's Nightmare? Or maybe Brain versus Brawn?

Incidentally, were I you, I might make special units out of the bear-skin berserks and wolf skinned Ulfhednar in the foundry range. It might have been common among Cromagnon to use such totemism… Good psy-ops as well!

Cacique Caribe26 Sep 2005 7:27 p.m. PST

Leadasbestos: I was wondering when someone would suggest something from the movie "Caveman".

CC alunda Lana too!!!

When I first considered a name I thought of something very serious-sounding, like "Survival of the Fittest" or something profound of that sort.

However, I must admit that this is a lot more fun.

"Incidentally, were I you, I might make special units out of the bear-skin berserks and wolf skinned Ulfhednar in the foundry range. It might have been common among Cromagnon to use such totemism… Good psy-ops as well!"\

Great idea! Cro-Magnons were very proficient iron craftsmen…

A few more names:

Cavewars
Spear and fang (this was actually the name of Robert E. Howard's first story – which, it so happens dealt with the struggle between Neanderthals and Cro-Magnons)

Cacique Caribe26 Sep 2005 9:32 p.m. PST

"Cavewars"

I love it!!!!

Patrick FL26 Sep 2005 9:41 p.m. PST

For a reference work, you might look for a copy of the "Land of Og" roleplaying game for ideas as well.

LOL 8^))

And a change on my part, Don't Get Caught Knapping

Norscaman: "I might make special units out of the bear-skin berserks and wolf skinned Ulfhednar in the foundry range."

Love the totemism and psy-ops reasons for the impressive skins.

Would I still end up with "historical" prehistoricals?

Andy: One Million Years BD – I love it! Imagine the poster…

Cacique, it's a shame you don't have 3 factions, then you could use Ug, Ugg, 'n' Ugglee? (With apologies to Ed, Edd, 'n' Eddie.)

CooperSteve27 Sep 2005 10:25 a.m. PST

"Battle of the Homos"… maybe not.

"When Hairy met Smelly"

"Oi, Dat's My Den!"

Warhammer Prehistoric Battles (+ half dozen army books…)

De Bellis Speluncis

Fire and Furry

andygamer27 Sep 2005 1:27 p.m. PST

De Bellis Speluncis and Fire & Furry: very good.

And isn't Battle of the Homos a Fox TV show? You wouldn't want to get sued like the Planet of the Apes "style" figure-makers discussed on the SciFi page.

Cacique Caribe27 Sep 2005 3:45 p.m. PST

"When Hairy met Smelly"

Just what you would expect of those troglodites!

Norscaman29 Sep 2005 7:51 a.m. PST

I don't consider Foundry's bearskin berserkers to be THAT accurate. As well, to those who point out that they are armed with swords, it is fairly easy to change a sword to a femur or club. We actually have little idea what berserkers wore, other than that they MAY have worn bear skins. They almost certainly did not wear the skulls on their heads. That said, I don't see why you could not use them, clad in skins, as elites for a caveman battle!

Cacique Caribe29 Sep 2005 1:55 p.m. PST

Norscaman; I will put them on my next list then. Thanks.

Has anyone seen the BBC documentary "Walking with Cavemen", where the two groups actually struggle and interact with each other? I have not seen it, but would like to know if it is worth getting it. Thanks.

CooperSteveOnTheLaptop30 Sep 2005 5:55 a.m. PST

Only saw the first episode, which was good, although Robert Winston popping up all the time got annoying.

CooperSteveOnTheLaptop30 Sep 2005 5:58 a.m. PST

Having checked my Latin dictionary, De Bellis Speluncis is actually correct Latin! I'm impressed with myself!

Now that my Copplestone Cavemen have been painted, all I have to do now is get photos posted, like I've already done with my Neanderthals:

Soon, I'll finally be able to have clashes between Neanderthals vs Sapiens!
