Sorry if this question is somewhere already, but I didn't find anything definitive. 2 questions: Did all British Light Infantry have the same facing color or did they all have the facing color of their regiment? Did each regiment have light infantry? For example, the 38th Regiment had yellow facings and the light infantry also have yellow. So, would say the 64th in black facings have light infantry also in black? Thank you, |

They have the facing color of the regiment they came from, and to which they will return. There is no reason for a converged battalion to have uniform facings. It's not a permanent unit. It is ad hoc. And yes. All regiments had a light infantry company. And the above applies also to Grenadiers. |

And the converged battalions did not carry flags. |

Each company had the facings of its parent regiment. No flags. And Officers above company grade would have worn line infantry uniforms (there being no such thing as a Light Infantry colonel). What HG said. |

And Officers above company grade would have worn line infantry uniforms (there being no such thing as a Light Infantry colonel). Or Marine in the case of Major Hon John Maitland, CO of the 2nd LI battalion, on the occasions when he wore his 'regimental.' I think the only image we have is a painting of him in a plain field service frock. |

42nd: Can you expand on that, or provide a link to a picture? I'm not sure what a plain service frock is that you are referring to. |

Or do you just mean an unlaced regimental coat? |
