It was an eBay impulse bid, because I really need sci-fi in a 5th scale! But recently I acquired 100-odd painted 25mm GZG Star Grunt figures – at about a half the cost of new castings. So given pretty much everything is 28mm these days can anyone offer up suggestions for size-compatible ranges? I'm already looking a the Demonscape range for appropriate vehicles and Alternative Armies has the old 25mm Asgard range – discovering at the same time that a weird oddment from a mixed eBay lot I'd assumed to be 6mm tank from the old QT range was a 25mm sci-fi mortar! Also are there any plastic AFV kits out there that scale? I assume the rash of 1:56th models are a bit big designed as they are to scale with 28mm. |

Denizen are 25mm too, and there are two real Sci-Fi factions available there, plus "Grunts" from the flick Aliens which are more like modern-day troops to me aside from their weapons. There's also a very small selection of Khiff aliens in trench coats too. 1/48th – 1/50th are best, in my personal opinion (for 28mm scale and due to the large selection), but 1/56th should work too. |

The Demonscape vehicles are the original vehicles designed by GZG to go with the Stargrunt figures. |

Nice score on the miniatures. We play plenty of games with 25mm. Yes 1/48th scale models will work. The old Kryomeck line of miniatures work as well . I have Denizen mixed with my GZG and they work great. The old Grenadier SciFi miniatures work as well. Here you can check out a few game pictures here postimg.cc/gallery/G2NqNXK |

Thanks, all very helpful. Forgot totally about Denizen! Know about the Kryomech range, but wasn't certain, them being a bit more recent relatively speaking, if they hadn't been part of that period when scale creep was nudging 25mm into 28mm. Quite fancy some of the Kryomech aliens, but they're quite pricy so I might just grab some plastic nid's. Knew about Demonscape's roots, shame they never ended up with the old 15mm stuff aswell. @dmebust That's a very nice table! |

Congrats on the eBay score! |

The old West End Games Star Wars figures fit well. Usually quite a few on Ebay. |

Space Lords too, but I think I read they are now OOP again, though a new company has bought them, so……. For those, I especially like their Phagon Battleclones. They look very alien to me and have a wonderful assortment of weaponry and poses. The humans are in big, heavy, armored battle suits. |

Hi. I am also a 25mms sci-fi gamer. Heritage, Grenadier, Weg, Gzg, Denizen, 1st Corps and some parts of the Starguard range like the Dreenoi will all work. Jerome of which I own a load are too large for 25mm. I recently ordered some Bronekorpus Battle tanks on EBay by Tehnolog. You get 7 tanks in your choice of configuration for 42.00 dollars plus 15.00 shipping. They are a perfect fit. auction |
John Leahy | 08 Nov 2020 3:53 p.m. PST |
Ignore Jerome. that was supposed to be Kryomek. |

The Ral Partha Battletech soldiers match. These are still in production with Iron Winds. My occassional blog talks about most if those mentioned above. Ral Partha link Denizen link GZG link |
Earl of the North | 09 Nov 2020 12:36 p.m. PST |
The Valiant Miniatures WW2 1:72 hard plastics are 25mm, its been a while but they matched up well with 25mm GZG. |
ROUWetPatchBehindTheSofa | 10 Nov 2020 9:40 a.m. PST |
The BT figures would have been nice had Ral Partha Europe stocked them – they seem a little steep from the States. Thanks for suggestions. |

keep looking @ ebay, old crow models are sellin some of their 25/28mm vehicles. Also some of the 3d printed terrain + vehicles are about the right size. That's what I have been doing over clockdown etc. |
ROUWetPatchBehindTheSofa | 14 Nov 2020 9:46 a.m. PST |
Yeah, I'd seen the Old Crow stuff on eBay – tends to disappear quick. Billed as a workshop clear out – no idea if that implies anything bad or good. |
Von Trinkenessen | 15 Nov 2020 9:20 a.m. PST |
I bought some of them, perfect condition not seconds .I think it might be furloughed cashflow? With the film industry on shut down. |

Finally got the figs on to the work bench, deciding to stick with basing and a restoration of the existing paint job rather than a strip/re-paint. I can identify the NAC troops from the photos on the website, the guys and gals in full carapace I assume are NSL, but some of the others, the one's in visor-less helmets and bush hats I haven't a clue. Anyone help?
|
Von Trinkenessen | 03 Jan 2021 9:05 a.m. PST |
They are from the mercenary range, helmets & some of the berets will have NSL weapons make good scouts or specforces. Red bandana man is merc pointman. Anymore you your'e stuck on give me a shout as this is what I have been doing refurb of my 25's, since lockdown #1. all the best Guy T |
ROUWetPatchBehindTheSofa | 03 Jan 2021 9:52 a.m. PST |
Thanks for that Guy. Personally I'm eying them up as Neo-Soviet types, but at least I know what they are now if I want to add to them. |
ROUWetPatchBehindTheSofa | 18 Jan 2021 12:53 p.m. PST |
After a marathon basing and re-touching exercise I'm down to the weird odds and ends you seem to get in any bulk collection. So, help! Anyone recognise these? Granted, I think I might need to strip them before anyone recognises them.

I enjoyed seeing pics of your figs. Keep em coming. I need to start on my 1st Corps troops. They are pretty nice! They have 3 different human factions and some aliens. Thanks. John |

Couple more shots of the expanding project. Picked up a bargain copy of the Maelstroms Edge boxed game and plundered the drone models from it! The KV was a Christmas present – I'm planning to build it as a vanilla KV-2 with an optional sci-fi turret. The mech is plundered from a Konflikt '47 US starter army which was lurking in my lead mountain.

Oh! I like those a lot! I was just looking at some partially painted Gzg 25mm NSL troops. Around a platoon's worth. I have almost a Company's worth of FSE. Some Merc figs like you have too. I have also been buying armored vehicle STL files. There are a load of them. DRS Models at Cults has a ton of different ones. Scaleable up to 28mm if your printer can handle that. I want to do 25mm. $6.98 USD for a file with 6 different vehicles. I bought a Tau, Eldar and wheeled vehicle sets. 18 different ones. I already bought into Rebel Minis armored vehicles STL kickstarter. 15mm and 25mm coming soon for my troops! Maybe see if they can go down to 6mm too. I saw Darebear here on TMP has shown Khurasan Soriog 15mm figs that appear they would fit with 25mm figs. They ARE large! link Thanks. John Thanks. |

I'm trying to be restrained. As much as I'd like a 3D printer I've no where to put it or the huge numbers of unfinished print projects it would undoubtedly spawn! Vehicle wise I've got a Rubicon purchase in mind and I'm casually looking at the Daemonscape site. I will probably pick up some new crew figures as I've got some GW IG heavy weapons in my spares box, which look okay with the iconography shaved off. I've just dunked the Acropolis figures in Detol, I'll be interested to see what they look like in the flesh so to speak. The only other thing on the shopping list is power armour. I'd quite like something hard-ish sci-fi maybe with a classic Starship Troopers / Forever War-vibe. The GZG armour is nice, but not quite what I'm looking for. I quite like the old Future Wars PA suits but alot of the weapon choices are a bit OTT for me. |
John Leahy | 17 Feb 2021 4:51 a.m. PST |
Have you ever seen the Heritage Galacta Power armor 25mm figs? Big and bulky. I have a platoon of them. Very cool looking PA, IMHO. I believe t5hey can still be bought from the owner of the molds. Thank John |

Thanks for the tip, I'll take a look. However, this week effectively flushed my discretionary wargaming budget (the joys of owning property). So new toys will have to wait. |
John Leahy | 22 Feb 2021 9:45 a.m. PST |
Here is the link. classicminiatures.net I believe the figs are called Shock Troopers in Power Armor. Hth, John |

Thanks, that's an interesting list of miniatures. |

Picked up four, rather nicely, painted 1st Corp figures (and hover jeep) off eBay. They are very nice figures will have to get more. I've also been eying up 28mm plastics for a powered armour conversion project – vanilla GW space marines being an obvious choice and plastic being a good base for conversions. The 2nd Ed Space Hulk plastic terminators I have lurking around look suitably bulky against a true 25mm, but the moulded heraldry is something I don't want. Basically life is too short scrape the skulls off! I've also looked at Mantic Peacekeeper enforcers, but I've not handled any in the flesh. Anyone any thoughts on adapting 28mm plastics to true 25mm? |

If you are willing to assemble your own vehicles, etc. This site has a lot of different items for free. genetmodels.com/free-stuff The armored vehicles are pictured with 28mm figures, but also work well with my 25mm Starguard and old Grenadier Traveller Imperial Marines.

Picture of a couple of the Acropolis figures, from 18/01/21 post, stripped and repainted. Just slightly bigger than GZG, nicely detailed though not as sharp as modern figures. Couple of things I'm not so keen on, but I'd consider buying more.

Picked these up along with some vehicles and Denizen Federal Marines. Look like GZG but don't seem to match any descriptions or pictures on the store or pictures on the web generally. Early GZG? Anyone recognise them?
