"Not all science fiction films age well, and often the predictions they make are hilariously misguided.

1987's "The Running Man," for example, contended that in the year 2019, we'd be watching battle royale-style murder on live television.

2019 is also the year that "The Island" predicted human clones would be farmed like cattle for their organs — and that film hit theaters a mere 14 years ago…."

Personal communicators are all the rage, though far more sophisticated than the one Capt. Kirk and crew had.

I still want a hand phaser or disruptor though.

Robot servants will fill households.

I mean, I don't have a robot servant. But my cat has a smart cleaning litterbox.

I, for one, welcome our PoopBot overlords!

Science Fiction authors have consistently gotten the dates wrong. Their predictions are usually too early.

1984: Dystopian society from Orwell's 1984
1987: Manhattan is a prison from Escape from New York
1999: Manned base on Moon from Space 1999
2001: Manned space mission to moons of Jupiter from 2001 Space Odyssey

And other times they fail to predict and show what is now old technology. Scene in Star Wars shows Luke and Han communicating on "wired" headsets instead of wireless which hadn't bee invented yet in 1977.

Don't forget the scrolling green screen and everybody smoking in Alien.

Kirk needing to wear glasses because he was allergic to the corrective drops. I guess no Lasik surgery in their universe.

What happens in the Holodeck stays in the Holodeck.

No point, just want you to know, that I know want you think you want me to know, but I know that isn't really what I need to know so I know that you know that I know what I really should know….

My head hurts.

What the hell were we talking about?
