Wow, from carrier to frigate. That's a bit of a demotion.

Yep! The Navy's naming system is completely copulated.

But up from sloop.

Not sure if I care what they call it.

It's 7400 tons and only $900 USD million. It's 32 big VLS cells plus 8 or 16 canister missiles plus 21 SAM cells, AEGIS and decent ASW sensors, and one and a half helicopters.

I keep wishing they would put two helicopters on these things, but they may be better replacing the one helicopter with two drones. At least for combat. Obviously for day-to-day operations few things are as useful as a helicopter. Still, more hangar space would be a great addition.

If it performs this is a great new platform. That's assuming it's as stealthy as it should be, and there's not way we can determine that.

It would a bit nicer if they replaced that pea shooter with at least a 76mm…

Andrew Walters, the Constellation class will pack less punch than the FREMM design its based on (smaller gun, no torpedoes). Also its anti submarine sensor suite will be poorer as well (no hull sonar).

No idea what the Americans are thinking.
