I'm trying to round out a 6mm miniatures collection I built up for playing Ogre/GEV, mostly with non-SJG miniatures. I need more trucks.

I have a dozen of the trucks SJG offered a couple decades ago, but those are out of production and long gone (which makes them worth more than their weight in gold if you do find some for sale), so I can't get more.

I have bunches of Cold War trucks (HEMTTs and Tatras) which would be perfect, except they're too "real". It would be like using old Model TT trucks in a Team Yankee setting. Jarringly out of theme.

I have about a dozen each of the Brigade Models Hippo and the GZG HEMTT, but those are both so big they look like 10mm miniatures (They're so big that even storage and game usage is a problem.) I'll use what I have as special super-sized military transporters and howitzer primer movers, but I'm not going to get any more of them.

I have a selection of the trucks from Scotia, but… well, yech. I don't like them enough to buy any more.

I just discovered the Bradley Miniatures 6mm Range, and I'd love to get a bunch of the Perscheron Cargo Transporters, but ZOMG! They're expensive!

The Microworld Games TEF Land Transporter looks cool, though admittedly a bit mis-themed for the Ogre universe, but I can't get any anyway. Out of stock. frown

What am I missing?

Suggestions welcome.

I've used GHQ models of the MAN KAT-1 10-ton truck and the tanker version:

Obviously anyone well-up on their NATO vehicles will recognize it, but with a suitably sci-fi paintjob they looked futuristic enough for my American eyes. Perhaps a radar dish or other gubbin could be glued atop the cab.

I'd give Iron Wind Metals Battletech miniatures a try. Also Reapers Battletech like game, CAV I think it was called.

I do have some of those, but the "too real" rule applies. I'll use them anyway if I can't find substitutes. They're really nice miniatures, and they look cool and brutally utilitarian.

My paint job wouldn't help, since I'm decorating all my forces in realistic cammo colors (even if the patterns are sheer fantasy). grin

Do you have any pictures? I'd like to see your interpretation of a sci fi paintjob.

Good suggestions! Unfortunately I already tapped out those lines. Both of these ranges are really 10mm scale, so I've found uses for hulls some and turrets and sometimes non-combat units as huge Ogre-verse vehicles (superheavies, alternative small Ogres, missile crawlers, mobile CPs, etc.), but no trucks.

Did you have any particular models in mind? It's possible I missed some.

I can recommend you some trucks and I exemplify with photos from my collection or links from manufacturers

From Scotia Grendel I think SF0092 – Scammell T15010 2000 Heavy Truck link looks quite good. I especially like some of their trucks because they are packed with stuff (boxes, wheels, barrels, logs etc.). From them, search also the vehicles from WW2 – Germany and France, and Modern Era trucks are good.

Heroics and Ros – if GZG is big, H&R is small, but search for US55 – Diamond Tank Transporters (H&R does not have a photo for it).

Vanguard Miniatures – Skinners Flatbed Trucks link

Brigade Models – E8 'Wrenchmobile' (HS6-115) link

Strato Minis Studio – Transtibetan (3000 tanker and other variants) link but they are expensive, more than Bradley/Alternative Armies.

Hope this helps!

I didn't know about either Vanguard, C-P Models or Strato Minis Studio. Those are all good discoveries. Thanks!

That Strato Minis Transtibetan tanker is a great-looking piece, but it's HUGE.

It really is the "golden age" for 6mm and 6mm Sci-fi. All I do is 6mm Sci-fi now. You have so many choices out there. Not just BT and Epic as when I got started in '89 … old fart

BTW did anyone mention Darkest Star ? link

Legions 4 Hire has a number of cargo vehicles in the Solar Empire Marines range and PFC/C-in-c still has a GEV cargo vehicle in their science fiction range. As mentioned Brigade Models has a number of vehicles too.

I've always thought the Alvis Stalwart looked very scif. H&R do one in 1/300:

I have some Stalwarts and GamaGoat 6x6's from H&R/ Skytrex, some of the Soviet/Warpac trucks/missile carriers are useful too with engineering bits swapped about…..

If you have no objections to 3D printing, and can access a Resin printer, might I recommend the Hardware Studios Truck Pack? You purchase the STL files and can produce as many trucks and tractor units as you need . . . Sadly you'll have to find trailers for the big rigs but that should be easy. link
