…resumes "A U.S.-backed ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh was in jeopardy on Monday as Azerbaijan and ethnic Armenian forces renewed fighting in the mountain enclave, defying international efforts to end a conflict that has killed hundreds in the last month. Azeri President Ilham Aliyev said in a televised address that he wanted to resolve the conflict "by political and military means" after both sides accused each other of breaking a truce agreed hours earlier in Washington. Speaking live on Facebook later on Monday, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said he did not believe Azerbaijan was interested in a peaceful resolution to the conflict. "The Armenian people are ready for mutual concessions, even painful ones, but not for the capitulation of Karabakh," he said…" YouTube link Main page

This little war between Azerbaijan and ethnic Armenian forces has me puzzled. Does this "mountain enclave" they are fighting for overlook some beautiful tropical paradise beach? Is it next to lush orchards and fertile pasture lands? Great veins of mineral resources? Gold, silver or precious stones? I suspect it is not. Most likely a rock strewn worthless piece of crap mountain side just like all the others around the entire area. I think this fight is not at all about the land. |

As long as they only keep killing each other off and keep in in their own territory. Let them work it out among themselves. That seems to be the only solution for some. E.g. Iraq, Syria, A'stan, etc. |

US never stood a chance in negotiating anything here. That part of the world is too rooted in the ancient systems of influence by the Russians, Turks and Iranians. |

I think the USA knows that … but it wants to/has to look that they at least tried something. Good geopolitics, especially in the media. Albeit most in the USA couldn't pronounce it properly, find it on the map and generally care less. For better or worse. That part of the world is too rooted in the ancient systems … Just like in the Mid East, A'stan, Pakistan, etc., etc., … and we see how successful that has worked out. |
