Anyone have experience with both what Scales and brands work for 1950s style cars/truck for civilian and police looks? Diecast, resin or hard plastic? Even if you have to repaint them. Mostly American brands but some British models too. |

1/48th – 1/56th scales, depending upon your views, and those of others. Sorry, can't help on availability, other than those that occasionally pop up at the local CVS, though I don't think there are many/any from that era. Model railroading manufacturers, or plastic/diecast ones are probably your best bet. |

Another pulp gamer recommended a range called Dimestore Dreams. They are plastic 1/43rd models, mostly under $15.00 USD each. I haven't seen them in the flesh yet, but I have five on the way to me. The folks at Pulp Alley use 1/43rd models, and they seem to look fine. They are readily available on eBay. Also check Solido diecasts. |

Is this too big for 28mm minis? link I ask because this old TMP thread by TMP Member "Amalric" shows photos of "1/48-1/50 scale vehicles which worked with 28mm minis and that seem to measure, with overhead shots on grid mats, between 4-4-1/2 inches long. The 1/43 car I linked to is stated as 4-1/2 inches long. TMP link |

Well I can certainly order one and check it out. If it doesn't work, I can give it away to a needy child. |

I've used that scale with 28mm figures without problem. |

On eBay you can find 1/50 scale diecast cars, including the "Hotwheels Custom Classic" line which has a number of 1950s cars. eBay lets you search by scale (1/50 is best), type and year of make. So you can do a search for "1/50 die cast car 1950, 1951, 1952, etc." |

Something to keep in mind with die cast vehicles is that scale is a relative term. It may say 1/43rd, or whatever is listed) on the box, but often they are made to fit the standard packaging and because of that may be an entirely different scale than stated on the box. Basically if it looks good to you, use it! |

Ive also found these Road Champs brand vehicles a lot of different 1950s cop car styles from 1955 and 1957 link link At 4-3/4" length maybe not too overly large to use? What do people think the most iconic color scheme is for 1950s Police or State trooper cars? |

I'd say overall white with black doors. |

Is there any reason to believe mobsters preferred black cars? Does anyone know of any good picture books or 1950s films that show off their cars? |

that link certainly does have a lot of choices but $30 USD for a single car seems steep. |
