Saw that this morning and it was reported last week or week before that the Congressional Gold Medal would be awarded to the unit.

And as Legion4 implied, it is about time they were recognized for their actions in Burma.

Yes and they suffered a lot of losses in their operation. And as mentioned in the article the US Army Rangers trace some their linage back to the 5307.

The Congressional Gold Medal has been awarded a number of times to military individuals and groups. The criteria is:
"The congressional medal seeks to honor those, individually or as a group, "who have performed an achievement that has an impact on American history and culture that is likely to be recognized as a major achievement in the recipient's field long after the achievement"

And not all dead. The article on this award in our local paper profiled one of the few still existing members of the group still alive.
