You may see some starship minis with a ratio scale next to them like 1/3900 or 1/20000 but those numbers don't tell you specifically how big the miniatures are and how well they work on the gaming table with a fleet from another manufacturer.

Scale in this case is related to the size of the physical miniature, not a relationship to the actual starship (since starships in these games don't really exist ) or a defined size of what the starship would be.

The purpose of this page is to help you know if Fleet A from Company 1 would look good on the table with Fleet X from Company 7. Thus if you have miniatures from one company and want more miniatures that are of a similar size, here is your list…."

I've always assumed that a starship miniatures game is akin to a holographic representation of a space battle. Nothing is in scale, so the only real "scale" is what shows differentiation between ship classes. Frigates/corvettes should be smaller than destroyers, which should be smaller than cruisers, which… etc.

Me, too. You basically need a parking lot to play a starship miniatures game at scale.

It's been said the ship models only represent the ship itself. If you wanted to scale it on a hex map, each hex is about 10,000 km of space. Your ship is the center of the base. With this standard the size of the models doesn't matter much, but frigates should just be smaller than everything but the corvettes and fighters.
