"On Aug. 5, militants carrying the black flag of the Islamic State launched a daring land-and-sea assault on the strategic port city of Mocimboa da Praia in northern Mozambique. In less than a week, they routed government forces and captured the entire town, declaring it the capital of a new Islamic province. Days later, a different band of Islamist gunmen rampaged through a famous wildlife park for giraffes in Koure, Niger, just 35 miles from the country's capital. Firing from motorbikes, they killed eight people, including six French humanitarian workers. The two attacks on opposite sides of Africa are among the scores of violent episodes to shake the continent in what experts are calling a breakout year for extremist groups affiliated with al-Qaida or the Islamic State. Less than two years after the fall of the Islamic State's self-declared caliphate in Syria and Iraq, the terrorist group is attempting a comeback in Africa, with far-reaching implications for a region already beset by poverty, corruption and the novel coronavirus…"

I suspect Islamic fundamentalism will outlast western democracy. In fact due to the joys of demographics I suspect the future of western Europe is very much an Islamic one. After all indigenous Europeans barely have children whereas Islamic migrants and their successive generations have lots of kiddies. And if Islam doesn't have an enlightenment any time soon, that future will be at best something like Turkey and at worst something like Taliban or Saudi Arabia. |

Yeah, good luck with that. Yes we all know this, but just making a very sad observation. I suspect Islamic fundamentalism will outlast western democracy. I hope the West sees this and continues to take measures to stop this. That type of world dominated by such an ideology would be a Giant step backwards for humanity. And if Islam doesn't have an enlightenment any time soon, that future will be at best something like Turkey and at worst something like Taliban or Saudi Arabia. I agree but the West does not have any method to really do anything about. They can't be forced into modernity. So the war against this threat will continue in small places with small forces engaged, etc. As long as we can try to keep them from killing the Westerner in our own street. But even with as much the US, etc., has done to stop this threat. We saw another beheading of a teacher in France by a jihadi type recently. Fortunately this type of horrible crime is rare now. With the destruction of the ISIS Caliphate, etc. whereas Islamic migrants and their successive generations have lots of kiddies. We know how hard it would be to stop migrants from crossing borders. Unless Draconian methods are employed. Many don't have the will for this and even call it inhuman, etc. And even if they are not in the West, the birth rate would still continue in their homelands. With many becoming radicalized anyway. |
