Yep, truly amazing.

Wish I could visit to see it, or help build it. That is very cool.

There are several years worth of videos on YouTube with English captions.

Are they still building it? When's the completion date?

For those of you not aware the Haynes title "The Medieval Castle" is centred heavily on the building of Guédelon Castle with many colour illustrations from there and other historic castles. The foreword says that work started in 1997 and has so far not completed. I think I read elsewhere that it is a 25-year project.

It is medium format hardback (some Haynes books are soft back) and it formerly retailed at £22.99 GBP. I was lucky enough to find it at UK High Street discount bookshop The Works where it had been marked down to £6.00 GBP but was marked down again in a sale at just £1.50 GBP.
I was well chuffed with that! :)

Haynes are famous for publishing car repair manuals but for some years they have been producing books on other subjects including flight, railways and space travel.

Many of the military, naval and aviation titles have turned up in The Works for prices around £3.00 GBP to £6.00 GBP I have recently purchased volumes on the Messerschmitt Bf 109, Tiger Tank, Panther Tank, Panzer III Tank, Sherman Tank, Sopwith Camel, Hurricane, the Mosquito, the Lancaster bomber, the Falklands War and the German infantryman in WW2.

Titles I have seen, but not purchased, include the Bismarck, the Type VII U-boat and the British Astute class submarine.

Some of these monographs feature details of a famous example such as the Tiger 131 at Bovington which featured in the film Fury.

My best advice on these books is to shop around.

The above are the Haynes listings. Note that some are available at about half-price from Haynes so pick and choose carefully – or try a discount bookshop such as The Works.
