I remember reading or hearing sometime ago that the German Focke Wulf Condor was used during the Blitz to bomb Liverpool. After a bit of digging around I found that a small contingent of them did indeed bomb Liverpool in late June 1940 but their contribution was negligible as they were poorly suited to the role of altitude Bomber. I wondered if any members knew anything more on this or why the Condor was not seen as an ideal bombing aircraft? |

If I remember correctly they started life as a pre war airliner that was redesigned into a bomber. Structurally they were not robust and couldn't stand up to much punishment. They gave good service over the Atlantic,, but even there they could be chased off by B-24s. |

llioydthegamer is correct. The Condor started as a airliner. It was not structurally strong enough for the bomb lombs needed for a bomber. they did good service but mainly early in the war and then on recon missions only. There is a picture of one which had it's back completely broke in two. |

Here's a Fw 200C3 with a broken back, almost certainly due to it's lack of structural strength.
