The biggest World War Two bomb ever found in Poland exploded under water on Tuesday as navy divers tried to defuse it… link |

Since "all 9 divers were outside the danger zone", I get the feeling that they weren't really trying to defuse it. I think the Poles just blew it up. |

Or using remote equipment? |

The version I read stated that they tried a process that essentially burns the explosives out. It didn't work and the bomb detonated instead. |

The story of this one bomb would make a really cool movie. Start with the design and manufacture, show the mission that dropped it from planning through execution, show a long interlude with a few close calls while it hides in the middle of civilization until its discovery, then show the disposal operation from beginning to end. It practically writes itself. It even titles itself: "Tallboy". - Ix |

"The biggest World War Two bomb" The Grand Slam bombs were bigger. |

Wow, no wonder an even bigger bomb was called Grand Slam. Have any been found in Poland to challenge this Tallboy as the largest found in Poland? |

Only a few Grand Slams were dropped, all over Germany or the German coast. link Barry |
