The Army announced its plans to purchase Iron Dome in February 2019 to comply with the fiscal 2019 National Defense Authorization Act, which required the service to equip ground forces with two Iron Dome Batteries by 2020. So this was forced on the Army by Congress? |

That I don't really know. I don't think so? But the US supplied a lot of tech and money to assist in creating Iron Dome. So maybe they want some return on investment? The system has proven to be very effective. So I think it is generally not a bad acquisition. And I'd think the Army would want some of these systems. |

Wait, didn't we develop Iron Dome and give it to the Israelis? |

Me as well. Good to see some aid coming the other way for a change. I don't think so Jav. I seem to recall that we wouldn't take or purchase it last time, since there was a major kerfluffel over the Israelis not providing their source code with it, if we were to make a purchase. |

Yes were worked with the IDF for creating the Iron Dome. They didn't do it on their own. Once this gets all sorted out I look forward to seeing the US getting and using them. I think Iraq would be a nice place to start. With the Iranian support of Iraqi Shia militia's predilection for launching rockets, etc., at US positions. We should have had this when the Iranians launched those missiles at us in Iraq. After we eliminated Suileimani. |

Much better to just use cluster bombs to take out the nests, instead of swatting at "bees" flying in the air. |

Imagine being a Russian or Chicom piolet. In 1991 we had a system that could shoot down Scuds, now we have one that shoots down much smaller, faster, and lower flying rockets. Can't be a good feeling. |

Much better to just use cluster bombs to take out the nests, instead of swatting at "bees" flying in the air. If you can, that option is not always available, etc., for a number of reasons. Once an enemy fires incoming, Iron Dome engages it, then counter fire takes out who just fired it. now we have one that shoots down much smaller, faster, and lower flying rockets. Yes that can change a number of things. And require that may be some tactics need to change … |

The other problem with cluster bombs is that Hamas usually fires these rockets from within residential neighborhoods, because it's good propaganda if they can so that the IDF killed a bunch of civilians when responding. |

Yes that was one of the reasons I was thinking about. Concern over Collateral Damage if always a priority. |
