After a summer hiatus, when wargaming had to take a back-seat, my Imperial army for the Thirty Years War has some new recruits in the form of ‘Croat' light horse.

The riders are a mixture of The Assault Group (TAG) and Warlord Games metals. The horses are mostly TAG, with some Perry and Foundry as well.

These light horsemen will also be used to swell the ranks of my Polish ‘Cossack' light horse in the future.

My Swedish baggage trayne is looking suitably nervous!

Happy to be corrected, but didn't the Croats avoid green clothing items because green was associated with Islam, which was the mortal enemy of staunchly Catholic Croatia? I was under the impression that the Croatian irregular cavalry predominantly wore a mix of red and blue.

Regards,

Nic

I'd not heard that, Nic, but I can understand the logic. I will look into it. Although they were often enemies there were things copied from the Ottomans in the east. I'm thinking of foot soldiers dressed to look like Janissaries in Polish forces. Perhaps I can fudge this logic by having my ‘Croats' in green being from the other Eastern European states ;-)

Very nice! I am very fond of the three Croat units in my army of Imps.

Nice work – and if the Croats were anything like the Cossacks, they wore whatever they could find/steal so a bit of green probably didn't bother them a bit!
