"Moving on from the best rules list,I thought Id better balance this with a small list of rules that I found pretty poor.I would stress this is a personal opinion and I am not paid to promote one set over another [ I wish]…" From here link Amicalement Armand |

Make this a Poll Suggestion, and I could think of a few. |

Nothing good can come of this. |

It would be bound to hurt somebody's feelings, so that's why a Poll is necessary. |

He mentioned WRG rules. I played tournaments back in the previous century, and a few of my friends still do. So, I put up with the Thursday Night Rules Clarifications before the actual fighting began Friday. Joyous affairs, where people would bring out their "letters from Phil" and compare postmarks. We would receive the official tournament amendment sheets. The classic had to do with bodyguards. After "page 8, paragraph 3, line 2", it would require that we delete "must" and write "cannot". Clear? But the point he made in the article was basically, that was what we had back then. It was all we had. If you survived WRG tournaments, you were a Real Wargamer, and could play anything. Let's not forget rules that didn't think WRG went far enough. Like Newbury. I bought the Fast Play out of curiosity. I shudder to think what the Slow Play we're like. But these wouldn't really qualify, because I never played them. If someone is cruel enough to start a Poll suggestion on this, there should be a caveat that you actually played those rules at least once. |

This thread comes up every 5 years or so. As others noted above, it is never productive. Can we just pull it now? |

I too surrendered two years of my life for weekly WRG 6th games. I'd rather not go there. I guess I feel the same way about rules as I do about music--beauty is in the eye (ear) of the beholder. It's better just to stay away from the ones you don't like than try to rank them. |

@John I bought and played Newbury Fast Play at a competition in Newbury. I thought the players there would help someone learn during the games whilst they gained easy victories. I was wrong. Worse than that if I had a query they pointed out I had to refer to the original rule book. My experience was neither fast nor pleasant. Played WRG 1685-1845 "Bang you're dead" Rules for years with 18th cent amendments. Great fun but eventually you get fed up working back through the slightly complex sequence. Have fun. |

I would not do this..II agree w/Bede…only bad comes from this. |

I disagree. It performs a service. If I wasted my money on a set of rules, it's only fair to let others know. |

I had a friend who watched the Amazon movie, "Vast of Night." He told me it was horrible and a complete waste of time. "Don't even bother watching it…" So I watched it. And watched it again. And watched it a third time. It's one of the best movies I've seen in awhile. I'll watch it again. Everyone has an opinion, as well as different likes and dislikes. Movies, rulesets, cruciferous vegetables…you just have to find out for yourself. |

I'm not sure how I'd score best and worse. Some sets you could get a game out of but were an ordeal to play. Others were playable but the game appeared to have little link to the history of the period. Sadly many sets are under tested and leave out key information. I do think John OFM is onto something, with the cost and proliferation of rules these days a vigourous no-hold-barred critique of them would be a help. Somebody should set themselves up as the nasty judge to tear sets apart (when deserved) – I think reviewers are generally too kind which is probably a function of the small community we inhabit. But John OFM..just because you did not like them does not mean others did not. There are rules sets out there I think are ridiculuous, but are very popular…and it boggles my mind that they are..but too each there own. |

I win that award hands down. I created a random orders system so complicated that each move involved some 30 dice rolls just to work out which order units moved in. I do not thing I got passed move 2. Rules died a death then and there. Nothing comes close to them in sheer badness |
