I am getting back into wargaming after some time away and am thinking about a WW2 project in 15mm. I came across Quality Castings while searching for miniatures and since the site has no pictures I came here looking for reviews and comments. The comments here, none of which are within the last four years, said that they are smaller than other 15mm out there but not much about their quality. The range looks fairly complete so I probably wouldn't have to be mixing them and the price is good. I also read that the range was being redone but again this was a few years ago. How is their detail? Do they require a lot of prep work? Are they sturdy little guys? How would they compare to Command Decision and Peter Pig after being reworked, if indeed that did happen? Thoughts and pictures would be helpful. Thanks guys.

They are smaller than any of the other manufactures. I have a mix of Peter Pig, Command Decision and Battlefront. They all mix well together.

I don't know if they've revamped the range.
My understanding, and correct me if I'm wrong, is that the range was not originally intended for wargaming. It was intended as a "true 1:100" scale range for modeling. Or something. That works out to 15mm, and one of my smaller ranges.

I have the Australians for 8th Army. They are recognizable as such, but the detail is sort of washed out. Some weapons are rather thin. I prefer a bit more robust, but that's mere preference.

The carriers are up to 10 pieces, and that's insane. They're also a bit smaller than Old Glory or Battlefront. The late Allen Curtis said that was accurate. I'm known as being very blasé about mixing figures and models, but even I object to mixing carriers.

I suggest that if you like Quality Casting, that you stick to them exclusively.

The infantry I have mix well with Old Glory and Peter Pig. No real issues with the few vehicles I have either

Washed out detail and thin weapons? I am like you John, I like nice sturdy stuff and details to be a bit exaggerated. Looks like this leads me in the direction I was first considering which is mainly Command Decision with Peter Pig and/or Battlefront for the support weapons and things CD doesn't make. I remember liking Gaming Models' tanks. They worked for me and the price was right. This is going to be a solo project since I moved to rural Louisiana a few years ago and I have a better chance of winning the lottery than finding someone to game with. I could kick myself for selling almost all of my miniatures. Luckily I kept my rule books. Thanks for the input John and evbates.

Personally, I think the infantry is too small, although I like their vehicles, although some of their models (especially guns and artillery pieces) have way too many small parts.

John, They were originally made for the US Government as recognition models in 1/108 scale. They were made by Comet Metal Products and were boxed as "Authenticast." From there they went to Superior, who sold the vehicles to Uncle Duke at Custom Cast, and then on to Quality Castings.

Have to agree with the others, bit on the small side, noticeably so. This might not be too awful with figures but the weapons, like MGs, mortars and motorcycles are very noticeable next to other manufacturers. It is a pity as they do some nice sculpts. I have their Soviet High Command pack for example and very nice figures.

If you do go this route then your best bet as to mixing with other manufacturers are True North Miniatures and Legions East.

The full infantry range was redone sans the French and Italians I believe. The figures were meant to be closer to Command Decision. Many of the vehicles were redone by Chuck when he was working with QC and when BH purchased the range, more vehicles/guns, etc, were added or redone. There are a lot of good options throughout the range.

The figures are tiny. I was really disappointed with my purchase. I never painted them.
