…Are Bound For China. "The Chinese People's Liberation Army is set to receive a new batch of Russian-made Mi-171Sh Hip combat transport helicopters, but their precise operator — and function — remains unknown. Photos of one or more gray-painted Mi-171Sh helicopters in People's Liberation Army (PLA) markings began to appear on social media earlier this week. The images were taken from a Chinese TV news report showing a visit to the Ulan-Ude Aviation Plant in the Russian Far East…" Main page link Amicalement Armand |

These aren't really mysterious, The Mi-171Sh has been around for a while and is even in service in NATO with Czech and Croatian air forces (both accepted the helos as Soviet era debt repayment) as well as a ton other second and third world operators. It is an assault chopper with capability to carry more weapons than a standard Hip as well as extra armour around cockpit. There are other minor improvements but these are optional and not all operators have got the same fit out.

It'd be interesting to know how many they are getting. Yes, sending them to the Indian, and/or Taiwanese fronts, or both makes sense. Perhaps some for their bases in the SCS, or for the carriers too – "aircraft" and amphibs. |

Yes they have been around for some time. But again it looks like the PRC is building up their assault forces … |
