I would be inclined to say it is a real mirror as you can see some of the individual strands of the "smoke" in the reflection.

But the overall impact is very impressive!

It's a nice diorama.

The mirror is real. There are two distinct angles that show the mirror, and what is reflected is different in each case.

If it were painted, it would look like a painting looks from different angles.

Getting a small reflective surface like that is a task in itself!

Very true to NC Wyeth's painting. The West wasn't glamorous and this diorama shows how brutish it actually was.
