This is a first foray with my nifty new 18mm crown and rebel forces. We decided on attempting Princeton, and we are using the Rebellion! supplement along with Black Powder 2nd edition.

So, there's something about unit lists that confuses. Just as one example, the crown forces have 3 battalions of British regular (line) infantry. Under Mawhood, for example, there's the 17th foot. On this unit list the tables lists "4 Regulars." Similarly, there's 55th Foot, identified on the table as 4 Regulars.

I know the BP method can work with any size units as long as we follow standard unit frontages. However, what the heck does the table mean here? Is it saying, perhaps, that for a line infantry battalion, such as the 17th, there should be 4 line infantry "units" or… what?

In most of the listed battles in the book, each named unit is listed as "1" with a type (i.e., like "1 Light Infantry."

This one, Princeton, confounds me a bit. Anyone have input? I can collapse stuff to fit the figure count, of course, but it's bugging the heck out of me.

In the intro to the scenario under "The Armies" it says:

Mawhood's Brigade consists of three battalions of British regular infantry who had fought in the preceding campaign in New York and who appear to have fought bravely at Princeton. Each battalion has been divided into four sub-units, each equivalent to a two-company "division", meaning that the entire brigade is now our "army" and each battalion gives us a game "brigade".

Aha… hidden in the descriptive text. I wish there was a legend. Still, four sub-units is a generic term again. Here modified to me I think, so each is a two-company division. So, around 180 men per "division" at four in the brigade, for 700-ish foot in Mawhood's. Okay…

Not sure why I am thick in the head, it was right there… gads.

If I remember correctly, Black Powder considers itself a toolbox. You just have to know which wrench to pull out.

Normal Guy, you are correct. As a toolbox it is a little harder to navigate when a newb.
