Former PFC Lawrence Brooks will celebrate his 111th birthday on Saturday. For the past several years the National WW2 Museum in New Orleans has hosted a party for him. But this year they had to cancel the party. However you can send him a birthday card care of the museum at the address in the link, below.

My father would have also been 111 this year,…..he died in 1973. He was drafted at age 31 in April of 1941 largely because he was still single. He served in the 132nd Infantry of the Americal Division and saw heavy combat on Guadalcanal (Mt Austen). My Mom said if it hadn't of been for WWII and his being drafted he might not have ever gotten serious about marriage with her. |
