The director only did half the story, and is saving the rest for a sequel.

Dude, I read the book over a weekend. It's not exactly War and Peace.

The David Lynch film (1984) was supposed to be a two parter as well. The De Laurentis boys decided to squish into one part and … it sucked a bit.

Two parts – both 2.5-3 hours long would probably be more practical than trying to squeeze a complex story into one film.

I hope Villenueve has this one well planned out. The book deserves a good film interpretation.

I'm worried about the audience aim, it looks to be a teen love affair, so will THAT be the draw to the film???

Otherwise, SEEMINGLY, impressive, but then again…

What say Youse Guise?

I like David Lynch's version, probably more than he himself did. It captures all of the extreme baroque weirdness of the novel.

He did screw up the weirding way, though. The Syfy miniseries handled it much better.

I thought the 1984 Dune by Lynch was one of the best movies I had ever seen. Maybe if I had read the novel first I would have thought different. The movie was "original", which is something you rarely see these days. Even the soundtrack by Toto was completely unique. I don't know if Hollywood is capable of making true art anymore. They just keep pasting new scenery over the same stale formulas and predictable characters.

It looks great, I am looking forward to it. :)
I liked the Lynch version for most of the visuals and the characters inner dialog , but he mucked up the story pretty badly.

Agreed!

I remember seeing the movie at the theater. I liked it (never read the books), but I went with two friends who've read the books. They called it horrible….
