"Everyone else on the wargaming blogosphere seems to be celebrating the 200th anniversary of Waterloo today with quite a few posts featuring the poster for the 1970 film directed by Sergei Bondurchuk. I wonder how many people will be watching it tonight?…"

Does anyone remember the march that was played when Napoleon arrived to say farewell to the Imperial Guard at Fontainebleu in the movie? |
Artilleryman | 10 Sep 2020 11:25 a.m. PST |
I remember the march when he left. It is called 'La Marche des Eclopes'. No, I do not know what the 'Eclopes' were either. Have to Google it. In the film it was the only genuine period French march other than 'La Victoire est a Nous'. |

The 'Marengo March' was also played and that was also from the period. The March des Eclopes was also referred to as the 'March of the Cripples.' The Guard played it when a Guard officer was late for formation or for a review. I think that is hilarious. Eclopes means 'lame' or 'limping.' |

Gosh, I remember getting this program when my Dad and I went to see the movie. I kept it for many years. I am not quite sure what happened to it. Likely tossed by my Mom in one of the "purges" along with most of my hockey and CFL cards. |

I went to see Waterloo when I was in high school and I don't remember them offering the program at the theater. I found one on ebay for about $15.00 USD today and bought it. Thanks very much for posting this. |

Thanks Brechtel. I cannot recollect the Marengo March. Do you remember roughly when it was played in the film? |

I cannot recollect the Marengo March. Do you remember roughly when it was played in the film? It was played more than once, but the one I remember was during the Guard attack near the end of the movie. It is on the soundtrack. |

Is it also known as 'La Victoire est a Nous'? That fits the bill timewise. When the Guard start to advance the music playing was written for the film then it moves onto 'La Victoire…'. |

Is it also known as 'La Victoire est a Nous'? It could be but I don't know. I'll do a little research and see what I can come up with. |
