"Eight in 10 Americans eat fast food at least once a month and half eat it every week according, to a Gallup Poll. Yet most people who eat fast food know it's bad for them. So why do they keep eating it?

The answer is simple: the benefits of eating fast food outweigh the long-term implications for most people. However, once you read these reasons why all those trips to the drive through may be slowly killing you, you may just want to stop eating fast food after all…"

We eat it very rarely – living out in the bush as we do. But the odd meal now and then never hurt anyone.

Here's a reality check.

You are eventually going to die anyway, so why not enjoy yourself in the interim.

"Fast Food" isn't the poison that many try to say it is.

Plus, some ingredients have preservatives in them, which if/when ingested, might lead to increased longevity, rather than early mortality.

Well, I'd almost kill for a decent doner-kebab with chilli-sauce. Ab-sol-ute-ly delicious.

Unfortunately we cook all our food from scratch, including pizzas in our covid-lockdown working-from-home kettle-bbq.

I'd eat more of it if I could afford it. I need to gain the weight… ;-)

And yet, the average life expectancy goes up.

As a non suffer of over weight, that seems to me to be the worst part of fast food.

I'm not one of 8 that eat fast food at least once a month. Married to a Thai that is a great cook I find other food bland. Even Thai restaurant food does not taste all that great. But I totally agree with moderation.

The OP is a great article!

It quotes studies on obesity that measure against more than once a week frequency, but the two periodicities the article mentions are both once a week or less. Not lying … just putting two unrelated statements together in one paragraph to make you think they are related.

I love the part about cruelty to animals, too. The article makes several points about things other than meat in the burgers and chicken meals (great context mapping there, too … "found in Silly Putty" … OK, but is it found in anything else?), but then laments the number of animals killed for fast food.

So, if we're using more meat an fewer fillers at home, wouldn't we be killing more animals than fast food? It's a great example of the incomplete comparison. You relate two things, but then only look at the numbers for one of them.

Great article! Loads of fun for the kids!

Well there should be no surprise that much of fast food is not that good for you …

Why people do it … it's just like with tobacco products. Everybody knows it is not good for you. And will probably kill you before fast food. As well as effective others around you with second hand smoke.

I think we should export huge amounts of tobacco products to many places that harbor terrorists, jihadis, hackers, etc. It may take time … but …
