Alas, this is the nearest most us will get to Paris for quite some time. Various photos of some of my 2eme DB AFVs against a Parisian backdrop, many more photos today, but some do need redoing. All 1/72 scale. I have much doubt about the green lettering and turret number for the first two companies of 501 RCC and stuck with the traditional blue (mind you the other side has it in green just in case!). I think the green idea came from a very dodgy colour film of Austerlitz at the Place d'Etoile, where the sky is as green as the lettering. Anyway, first instalment here. Decals are mostly Braille Strike, tanks are Trumpeter, UM Heller etc, figures are heavily converted resins from various ranges

Deadhead, these are so cool…..and well done! The Sherman turret in the last photo shows off a real "cast" texture to its surface – was that part of the model, or did you apply extra texturing to get the effect? (btw, the Tour de France started today – we'll see if it gets all the way to Paris too) |

Nicely done especially with the backgrounds – great work and thanks for sharing |

Thanks all. Well spotted on Champaubert! I got two M4A2s from Heller and chose subjects as different as I could get. Tarentaise had applique turret armour, a different mantlet and hatches for the driver and gunner (different manufacturer). See below. I did not post this as, strictly speaking, poor old Tarantaise never made it to Paris. Champaubert did not need the extra turret armour, as it was cast with a much thicker wall over the previously thin weak spot. So I added the surface with filler and made sure to create a rough texture. I tried to do the weld marks on both seen here (the sloping glacis plate) with several layers of paint dots. Did not want to overdo it, but not sure I have it right yet for 1/72 scale. M4A1 and M4A3 105 still to do, not to mention jeeps and two trucks

Well your skills and execution shows off some true grit – if you know what I mean. |

I have seen 1/35th scale with lots of aftermarket items that dont look half as good as these. I am especially taken with the halftrack with the crowd scene, seamless blending there. Nicely done sir, nicely done. |

Cheers. The half track pic works even better in monochrome….and I did decolourise it +++ but not totally. I searched a French website about 501 Marquages (that is markings to you and me). I fully accept this is OCD, but blue or bright green lettering? Answer; neither, c'etait "Khaki". See below. But then I hear that folk at Saumur worked through layers of paint on an M4 and found blue lettering right at the base….. link As for after marketing, try doing periscope wire shields in 1/72 (using brass railings off an Arizona on Dec 8th that never got finished). The language was incredible and Mrs F was pas contente |

Thanks folks. I had rather forgotten this lot! I now have Beauce II done (an M4A1 with the cast hull, three piece transmission housing and more white stars than seems wise). I am trying to make each Sherman that bit different. Just when I thought I was finished, my Dragon M4A3 105 howitzer finally turned up. Snag is I have no decals for the A3 105 and loads for the M4 105. I think with lots of kit on the engine cover few will notice! Must do more photos now! You have encouraged me |
