Another one of those "gee whiz" articles. Unfortunately, the author persists in stating that the Union used hot air balloons – They were filled with gas, generally hydrogen. It was an absolute miracle none ever caught fire. |

Absolute nonsense this article. Weird weaponry, hardly ever used (which is telling you something about value) but "Musket (rifles?), bayonets and cannon(s)" were what truly decided the conflict. Unless, of course, you want to consider sheer numbers, starvation and blockade, international relations (above all), geography, industrialisation (forgive the over-the-Pond "S") and all the other factors that really decided the result. As an outsider, I will not mention the morality of the "Peculiar Institution" of course. |
