I'd love to see early Marines in 782 gear. |

Pyrate Captain, It's the same gear as WWII. The "butt pack" the figures have I think is US Army issue, we never had them but got one at a surplus store and used it. The boots look spot on. I don't recall having trousers with thigh pockets. Army issue? The Marines scrounged gear that they liked and used it so a Marine figure not in Marine issue should be OK. Wolfhag |

Yes, the jungle fatigues had the thigh cargo pockets. But the Army had "field trousers" which went over your standard fatigue trousers. We got them issued when I was in the Army, '79-'90. Regardless of if you were wearing standard fatigues or the later issued BDUs. They could be worn if authorized by Bn HQ. They were a thicker, heavier material. Sometimes we just wore those instead of the standard fatigue trou. And could be pretty warm in a hotter climate. E.g.: the US Southern states most of the time. We wore them in the ROK, over our BDUs, but only in colder months. In a tropical climate they would be quite uncomfortable. We never wore then in Panama, we were issued jungle fatigues. The "butt pack" the figures have I think is US Army issue, I still have one, but forget when it was no longer issued. It was at least issued, '75-'79 in ROTC, and '80-'82 or '83 when on active duty in the 101. Looks like the models are wearing jungle fatigues with some sleeves cut off or a flak vest over a t-shirt. Like in the movie, IIRC … |
