Dollar Tree, for those who don't know, is the dollar-store chain in the USA.

Some of the newer items I've seen (and some older items):

* small bottles of Allene's Tacky Glue (white glue)
* small bottles of Mod-Podge
* Acrylogy brand of paints (4 fl oz bottles)
* wood craft cubes (Crafters Square brand) – make your own dice
* metallic markers (Crafters Square brand) – gold, silver, many others, medium tip marker
* Halloween and fall decorations (plastic skulls and skeletons)

Thresher0113 Aug 2020 6:34 p.m. PST

- dice

- playing cards

- small, 6-cell, white, plastic paint pallets

- foam-core board

- posterboard

- very small, plastic craft bead cubes and balls – can use for 15mm and 6mm boxes and barrels/jars, for terrain and cargo – approximately 1/4" in size, or so

- door mats that look like cobble-stone streets for 1/100th – 1/144th scale armor (tightly woven, 1mm – 2mm squares in a light gray/tannish earth color); only a few of these though, in stock, so they are a bit rare

- the occasional Matchbox or other similar vehicle

- plastic dinosaurs and other fauna/fish

Army men, vehicles for modern or SciFi.

I would be cautious about buying foam-core board from there. I bought quite a bit a few years back to make buildings, and every sheet had the paper peel off of one side after it was cut. Of course, the paper didn't come completely off until after the buildings were finished. . . . 🤬

Lots of great stuff at Dollar Tree. It's always worth a look.

Toy dragons and dinosaurs!

Ditto on the foam-core board. I go for the extra expense and buy the better stuff at Dollar General… ;-)

So basically for us Brits this would be Poundland. I get loads of hobby supplies from Poundland here in the UK

Cheap super glue
PVA glue
UHU glue
Disposable craft knives
Brown flexible window caulk (brilliant for scenery making)
cheap paint for for scenery
Grey primer in a can
Spray paints
Cheap toys to convert for gaming
Cheap ornaments for scenery
Aquarium plants

A novelty warning sign that says "Warning Fart Zone", and yes, I bought one. :-)

Soup bowls. Two soup bowls=1 flying saucer.

And don't forget the famous Bottle Brush Pine, the miniature world's most common conifer, though I usually expand my forests at Walmart immediately after Christmas.

Same company grin

Ice cream bars and tubs. Perfect on a hot day, after you are done shopping.

They have imitation Lego that are decent. Cheap enough for utility purposes.

I took a little detour on my way home from work and noticed that in a strip mall that I rarely visit there was a Dollar Tree, so, inspired by this topic, I stopped in. (Somehow, I have never gotten into the habit of stopping in a bar on my way home from work on a Friday night, unlike most of my male relatives on both sides of the family.)

Dollar Tree yielded some very small rhinestone stickers, always useful to add to scratchbuilt science fiction vehicles as sensor pods, weapon turrets, smoke/aerosol dispensers, etc.

I also picked up some stickers in interesting shapes, such as 5-pointed Soviet-style stars to use as stencils for insignia and squares with rounded corners to delineate hatches.

I bought the last package of very small self-adhesive plastic hooks, which will become landing gear or weapons, as needed.

They also had surgical masks, package of two for, of course, $1 USD, so I bought a pack to throw in my glove compartment.

Don't forget the robots! They sell 6" tall robots for $1.00 USD.

Col Durnford15 Aug 2020 5:29 a.m. PST

"Price check aisle 12".

Don't forget storage containers. I picked up around 50 small ones, around 6x3 and about 4 inches high with hinged snapping lids. All my pending figures are in them. They are numbered and my project list has the contents key. Want to start WWII 20mm French this week, that would be box 37.

zip-loc baggies in a wide range of sizes.

I always assume that stuff sold at the dollar stores is rejected by the regular market for some reason. Glue that doesn't stick, etc. My thinking is that they find a production run with issues so rather than ditch the whole 100,000 units (or whatever) they sell it off to the Dollar Stores. Not all of the run will necessarily be bad, but they can't take the chance. Another reason could be production over-runs.

I recently picked up bags of large-sized animals. Safari Ltd size, whatever scale that is. In fact the Tiger looks like a copy of the Safari Tiger.

As I recently started gaming in 54-60mm I am going to use the Tigers as "War Tigers of Pan Tang" (cue the music), the Zebras as mounts for even larger scale Zebra Lancers/Pavis Survivors (Glorantha), the Rhinos and lions for 54/60mm riders.

Jeffers15 Aug 2020 10:50 a.m. PST

Don't forget the Middle of Lidl.

I love Baufix (now anglicised to Powerfix) metal primer. Really good stuff for about £3.00 GBP a can, but it only comes in once a year so you have to be quick.

Likewise the Callestick Farm Cornish ice cream… 😋

Thresher0116 Aug 2020 11:03 a.m. PST

Rulers and laser pointers.

Cheap white boards.

Index cards for making your own unit, troop, or vehicle cards.

Tea and Halloween/Christmas lights.

Oberlindes Sol LIC Supporting Member of TMP16 Aug 2020 6:47 p.m. PST

Didn't see any laser pointers! But I did meet a guy at a convention who had found a carpenter's laser tool at, I think, Harbor Freight, for about $5. USD

It would illuminate any angle you set. So if the forward machine gun on the tank can traverse 45 degrees, you can just put the tool down where the gun is, set it to 45 degrees, and instantly see which targets are inside and outside the field of fire.

von Schwartz17 Aug 2020 6:21 p.m. PST

Lets not forget little trees to use to make terrain pieces, especially after Christmas you can get bags of small flocked trees about 12-14 each bag for a buck!!!

The paper coming off the foamcore is a feature. You take it off before building and you can draw patterns like bricks or press textures right into the foam.
