….standoff

"Turkey claims it is "breaking a blockade" by sending naval ships under the guise of a research mission to the Mediterranean. For a country that is a member of NATO – and which has sent drones to Libya, is busy bombing northern Iraq and occupies part of northern Syria – Turkey's narrative that it is under blockade is a novel approach to fan its latest maneuvers in the Mediterranean.

Never in history has Turkey been less under blockade than it is today. Yet it has manufactured a crisis with Greece to lay claim to areas of the Mediterranean, asserting it wants to survey and drill for energy resources when it hasn't even developed such resources closer to shore…"

Under "blockade" but able to move vessels freely throughout the Med?

Put down the hashish pipe.

Thresher, I think the Turks are developing an Iranian approach to propaganda ie it is designed for local consumption even though it may appear inane in better informed and more open societies.

I think the main goal is to get the low educated urban and rural poor (30% of the population) and lower working class (who are close to poverty) to get all hyped up about evil Greeks and French and thus not just ignore Erdogan's follies but embrace them as great patriotic endeavours that defend the rights of Turkey.

It also helps shut up whatever criticism of the government may exist as anyone criticising Erdogan could be construed as unpatriotic.

Sounds familiar as most want-to-be dictator follows a similar course.

Well, if they want to declare they are under blockade, then by all means we should give them one, a very tight one.

Yeah, you only have to look at the current Turkish governments multiple attempt to block various social media platforms and its general quashing of independent journalism.
