…BORD DE LA BELLE POULE EN 1840 "On July 7, 1840, 180 years ago, the frigate La Belle Poule, commanded by the Prince de Joinville, third son of King Louis-Philippe, sailed from Toulon to Saint Helena to collect the ashes of the Emperor Napoleon I° that Great Britain agreed to return to us. The Mission arrived at Saint Helena arrived on October 8 after the festive and eventful stops in Cadiz, Madeira, Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Bahia (in Brazil). The exhumation and identification of the body took place on October 15, before the return and completion of the apotheosis mission to the Champs-Elysées and Les Invalides on December 15.
