"In May 1817, three "supply ships" from St. Helena Island anchored off Jamestown. The first to arrive on May 22 was the Ocean (under Captain Johnson), then the Experiment (under Captain Dacre) and finally the Baring (skippered by Captain Lamb). Due to the slowness of the Jamestown port facilities, the unloading was expected to take several weeks (if not months). Thus, Captains Johnson, Dacre, and Lamb joined the island community for the duration of their anchorage.
