I am finishing up work on the 1.05 release of the Quickfire rules (free fast play predreadnought). For any of the regular users, feel free to post or email any playtest notes you might have. 1.05 updates include: - Expansion of ship stat lists. - Addition of optional rules including range guessing (my favorite). - Addition of a PDF based ship log to speed game setup. - Expansion and clarification of some rules text, available scales, etc. Otherwise no major game mechanics changes. link Thanks, Jim |

A few notes and observations, if you don't mind. 1. Some of the links are broken. Combat Scenarios and Miniature Wargaming 101 don't seem to work. 2. So we have to calculate our own speed charts? The ships are classed by an alphabetic speed class, but then you have to mathematically calculate the actual measurements of inches or cm using the ship value formula? Or do you have these already calculated somewhere, and I simply missed them? I'm guessing the latter… 3. If I may be so bold as to make a suggestion, perhaps adding a single combined PDF file download of the rules (optional and basic), National fleet lists and charts would be a trifle easier on the end user. 4. HUGE thanks for all your hard work, and incredible generosity in offering these rules for free. They look like a lot of fun. I was particularly taken with the clever gunnery mechanisms. I look forward to trying them out. |

Hi Tony, Thanks, for beta rules I've usually had active links just for the portions of the rules being worked. It made swapping out the index pages go faster. But I can see how that's not particularly user friendly to anyone not used to it, links that don't apply to the update have been removed. The pre-calculated speed increments are in the Ship Stat Formulas page: link Converting the online format to a well laid-out PDF is not something I've really had time for yet. I may be able to consider it in the future though. Hope that helps! |

Aha! I knew I'd missed a chart somewhere. That's exactly what I was looking for, with respect to the ship's speeds. Thanks! |

I've played Quickfire numerous times. I quite enjoy the simplicity. one thing I have noticed is that small vessels like torpedo boats and destroyers are surprisingly resistant to damage, even when fired on by multiple BBs & cruisers, because they still have 8 speed boxes to burn thru. Perhaps some reduction in the number of speed boxes for smaller size ships or a doubling of damage done to them. |

That's a good point. I made a destroyer flotilla ship log for Battlefleet 1900 (more detailed rules) which had half the number of speed boxes. I never made one of those for Quickfire, that would definitely be something to add. Thanks. |

I've added the Quickfire flotilla log, condensed for 10 boats. |

How about combining the Gunnery and Gunnery Reference charts? Just put the die roll needed directly on the Gunnery Reference chart. |

Convert it to a pdf and sell it on WargameVault for $5 USD to pay for your time. |

The Gunnery Reference table is not used much as far as I know (?), as it's really just for when a player wants to verify a particular ratio on the fly. Or so I've thought. Otherwise it does take up quite a bit of space (I've always intended to replace it if something more useful needs that space). I'll ping some of the other regular play testers to see what they think. There are pluses and minuses to having a large cross-reference table as a part of the main combat resolution (cross index fatigue?). I have considered the PDF route, but to make it look good I would need to invest some serious time in it which I have not had yet. But I am keeping that in mind. Good suggestion for sure. |
