"This all-female army was so ruthless that European colonists called them the black Amazons after the legendary female warriors of Greek mythology. They are also the inspiration behind Dora Milaje, the all-female special forces unit in the Marvel film Black Panther. Their brutal fierceness struck fear in the heart of Western troops and left their European colonizers shaking in their boots. The Europeans called them the Dahomey Amazons while they called themselves N'Nonmiton, which means "our mothers". They were an elite fighting force in the Kingdom of Dahomey( situated in the present-day Republic of Benin) whose job was to protect their king at any cost. They are so historically relevant we need a picture of comic book heroines from a nonsense Marvel movie, to some how lend them credibility? Just more myth-making. I don't think that is a problem, mind you. Just be honest about what it is. Say men can better than women at anything what so ever and one is instantly labeled a sexist misogynist. ( I however do not hate women nor look down upon them. I treat everyone as an individual and am rather fond of many people.) Say women can be better than men at everything what so ever and one is given a knowingly smug nod but is somehow not labeled a misandrist? Please spare us this kind of fairy tale media hyperbole and stick with miniature war games…… please. Without a TO&E or uniform guide for this unit, the article is useless fluff. :D |
