In 15mm/18mm, and if you don't mind only two poses, I'd vote for AB Miniatures. link If you want more variety, my 15mm favs would be Xyston. |

My current favourites are the Victrix plastics. |

The old Vendel line is very nice. It has robust 28mm figures and various hoplite types, many with lances thrusting in overhand position. I don't know who carries it today though. |

Strange that the title of post was not understood as indicating the scale "28mm Hoplites in classical overarm thrusting style?" |

Read the 'action log' to the left of the post, Bob … the editor changed the title which originally didn't include the scale Phil (here to help) |

For Classical Spartans, I like Gorgon Miniatures. Foundry Miniatures have a nice range as well. For plastics, Victrix. Warlord has a nice range of Metal Miniatures and they have their own plastic range but I think they're 25mm. Thistle & Rose Miniatures sells the old Vendel Miniatures range but you have to go on Facebook and send them an email to order it. They don't have a website. Footsore Miniatures have a good range of miniatures too and also have a skirmish game called Mortal Gods which is fun to play. They've just released Mythic which has all the Ancient Greek mythical monsters and Jason & The Argonauts. Hopefully, this will help you out. This is some and not all of the companies that sell hoplites in 28mm. |

Too me the victrix overarm pose doesn't look quite right as the legs on the figure are too close together. the warlord figures have a better stance. Some of the foundry ones look ok but not all in a pack have the stance I'm looking for.The gorgon spartans look nice. I'm in the uk so not sure about shipping. Any other manufacturers which look like the warlord figures? |

The old Vendel line has aged quite well and offers a very large assortment/variety of hoplites. Thistle and Rose now carries the line and I have ordered from them several times recently. They are very responsive and the whole process went quite smooth. Figures arrived within a week and the casting quality was good. I will be ordering more to round out my old vendel armies. |

I have the Vendel Hoplites, they are one of the few companies that offers Hoplites in almost every pose from standing at rest to thrusting with arm extended including the overarm position. |

Vendel figures are quite nice. The figures are a little pricey at $2 USD per figure. I love the Victrix quality. Not a big plastic fan but their designs are lovely. |

The Warlord Games/Immortal hopkites are nice BUT the heads are anatomical so look undersized compared to other figures. Replacing them with Victrix Greek heads does not work as they are very large and look ridiculous on the bodies. However, the newer Victrix Macedonian heads work quite well on those bodies. But you are looking for classical period Greek hoplites I'm presuming? I wonder if you could cast your own heads using Omuyaru/blue stuff? Probably more work than you want, though. |

Vendel figures have thick hands and solid sturdy poses. Here you can see some variants: In the back (left) a Foundry figure. Then in the middle a Vendel 28mm. The front rank has a Gorgon Studios Etruscan converted to Spartan. You can see they are mostly compatible. The Vendel over hand pose is very nice because he is posed sideways which makes it possible to close them up. B2 is the Vendel- note that the model has a more flat trajectory spear (which I prefer). Many hoplites are posed to strike the ground, which helps ranking up sometimes, but also get tiresome.

Thanks JJ for the pictures. Your figures look lovely. The vendel pose looks very good although I would say he looks a bit chunky around the greaves area! I find it a bit comical that the warlord hoplites are criticized for being anatomically correct. Actually I think they are the best I've seen from the photos. |

I guess the criticism is they don't really match up with other makers that easily. Yes, they are nice and the shields are not undersized like many makes seem to be. They make options for more Spartan looking figures (heads, helmets beards) and a couple different upgrade sprues. Check Warlord's website for sprue pictures. Remember, Immortal Miniatures was the original maker of these (Warlord bought them out) and if you're interested search for those too and see what the price difference is. Warlord also has sprue sales once in a while so you can get more at times a bit cheaper. |
