That is good to hear, but a decade late, and tens of BILLIONS of taxpayer dollars wasted with little to show for it. Keel-hauling should be reinstated to prevent stuff like this happening in the future. |

Not a moment too soon. Your article does get one thing wrong. The Bofors 57mm gun is reliable and has been widely exported. link Don't get me wrong, as a former USN Gunner's Mate, I think the world has been going downhill since the retirement of the Iowa-class BB's, But the author's criticism of the Mk 110 gun is unfounded. A ship that big should carry at least a 76mm. The 57mm is too small for the job, but it does function as advertised. |

I suspect it was selected due to its rapid rate of fire, but agree, a 76mm gun would be preferable. |

I agree that I would prefer the 76mm, but the new FFGX is going to mount the exact same gun as the LCS- the Mk 110 57mm. link I have heard good things about this gun, so I am not sure where the reports from the article are coming from. I wonder I'd the author is confusing the Mk100 with the two 30mm mounts on the LCS that have been reported as problematic. |

The author seems to think that FFG(X) uses the 76mm gun whereas it's using the same 57mm Mk110 as LCS (and our Type 31). As to which is the better gun – depends on the threat you are countering. In many cases the 57mm is the better choice |

I'm with you, Thresher--but at least the Navy built something. The Army has spent the GDP of a smallish country on weapons systems which never deployed at all. Reinstating corporal punishment for the procurement people wouldn't get us our money back, but it might make us feel better about the whole thing. |
