Please forgive my ignorance, but hopefully someone will take pity on me.
I believe that most British regiments with buff facings also had buff crossbelts. At the same time, I have read that light companies generally had black crossbelts (and red waistcoats). We're these distinctions carried across to the 'buff' regiments.

Officially the light infantry belts were black however some units, for uniformity's sake, had the light coys. had belts that were the same colour as the hat coys. There is one inspection return where the light coy had whitened their black belts which made them look "exceedingly ill"
