Does anyone know of good sources for the personal standards of the main leaders of the First Crusade? I am interested in finding out what the standards of Godfrey of Bouillon, Bohemund of Taranto, Raymond of Toulouse, the Roberts of Normandy and Flanders, Baldwin of Boulogne, Stephen of Blois carried as their personal standards. Also, was their a special Papal banner for the Crusade? I have not found much on Google searches and not much in written sources either. Any help would be appreciated! |

I would recommend taking a look at those who have gone before, such as Steel Eel Studios whom has a very nice blog for the 1st crusade. link Don't know if it's any help but there is a novel about Godfrey de Bouillon called the Blue Gonfalon. A few older images show the red Bouillon crosses on a blue or white background. |

"Bohemond's banner was red in colour and that of Robert of Normandy was yellow. Baldwin's banner was white" – according to link Bohemond's red banner is mentioned by Fulcher of Chartres, but I don't know the original sources for the others. |

And also link – same information, no more detail or clues to what the original sources were. |

I did have a book on illustrations of crusaders from that time. If they had a family crest, they showed it but had a crusading cross painted or sewn over the crest. The unique thing about the cross was that they are shown in many colors other than red, white or black. I saw them in blue, brown and green. These crosses were also added to banners. |
