I'm a newbie to Chain Of Command, returning to the wargaming hobby after a 39 year sabbatical. I want to create a platoon of early-ish war German paras for Chain Of Command while also support my local games shop at the same time. I know they can order in the Battlefront Late War Fallschirmjagers in 15mm, but they have no access to other manufacturers/ranges at the moment. First of all, are the Battlefront minis decent, easy to paint models? Also what differentiates these models from the early war equivalents? I assume it's a combination of weapons, uniforms and kit. If simply painting them in early war colours rather than the later splinter camo pattern isn't enough, then is Peter Pig the way to go? Be gentle! |

At that size the cut of uniform and helmet will pass. I did my Fallschirmjager in 20mm for Rapid Fire mainly for NW Europe 1944/45, but I also wanted the option to use them for some early war actions. As a uniform guide I took the invasion of Crete as a pattern. That said, I painted smocks and helmet covers in a mix of green and Cammie. About the only weapon the required special handling (single figure stand) was the FG 42. I've heard a lot of good things about the Peter Pig figures.

The main difference is the jump smock. The early one was a tight step in design. After Crete they changed to a larger, baggier button up smock. More like a long jacket that could be buttoned up around the leg section. Highly recommend Peter Pig for your early Fallschirmjager. |

In 15mm the only visible difference is going to be MG42s for the late war FJ vs MG34 for early war. Depending on your eyesight, maybe even that doesn't matter. |

In 15mm the only visible difference is going to be MG42s for the late war FJ vs MG34 for early war. BF's plastics only come with MG42 , also I think there's about 8 Panzerfaust figures per plt . Perterpig's new EW FJ look good . |

The Flames of War site has a decent article on painting them: link |

Colour Guide – German Fallschirmjäger By Michael Farnworth PDF link I would use Vallejo green grey for the EW jump smock for 15mm figures . |

Thanks all. Having looked at a close-up of the sprues, the hit rate doesn't look that great. I'll look at the Peter Pig models and buy the paints from the FLGS as a compromise! Someone has also mentioned the GE767 Luftlandesturm platoon from Battlefront which seems to have the right uniforms and equipment. |

GE767 Luftlandesturm platoon. link They are the old metal figures , painted in EW uniform colours . The Walter Koch figure would make a nice CO . |

Thanks @Col Piron. I have ordered the Luftlandesturm from Battlefront and I'll supplement with Peter Pig. |
