According to a friend who is an archeologist specializing in the Maya, K'inich Janaab' Pakal of Palenque is very questionable. First, the dates are in dispute (Mayan dating is rather arcane). Second, this may refer to more than one person, which would be like conflating the reigns of Luis XIII, XIV, XV, and XVI of France. Also, Liechtenstein and Monaco are Principalities, and Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt was a Duchy. Ergo, their rulers were NOT Monarchs. |

The previous king of Thailand should be listed under his reign name, Rama IX, rather than his personal name, like all of the other monarchs listed in that manner. |

A monarchy is rule by a single person. Mono meaning one, and archy meaning rule. Independent states that are 'ruled by a single person' are, by definition, monarchies. Such states can be kingdoms, empires, principalities, dutchies, grand dutchies, whatever. So places like Monaco are indeed monarchies… |

Not especially fond of QE2 but she is on track to make it to 75 years and win this race. I'd like to see all monarchies gone. It's not fair on the royal families either and they often DO meddle in the politics of their countries. The Queen came out against Scottish independence for one thing. |

Whilst the Queen is undoubtedly against breaking up the Union, I don't think she ever actually meddled in the independence campaign. It would've been counter productive and anti-constitutional for one thing. The main issue I have with the monarchy is that they cost a huge amount of money. Also Prince Andrew, who needs extraditing in my opinion. Possibly in a deal for Anne Saccolas. |

I remember it being in the news that the Queen wanted the UK to remain 1 country. That counts as interference. Nothing would have been published without the Queen's consent. I sympathise with her views, though I am pro-independence for Scotland. |

As I remember it the then Prime Minister at the time of the independence referendum David Cameron, managed to let slip that the Queen was in favour of the UK remaining as one country, which was something that was presumably conveyed in confidence and was hugely embarrassing to both the government and probably the Queen. It is often difficult for non British people to comprehend but the UK monarchy really has very little say in political matters, things like the opening of Parliament and meeting with the Prime Minister are ceremonial and a matter of courtesy and as such are completely superfluous to the running of the country. As it happens I am also pro-independence for Scotland, though as an English person I was not called upon to vote upon the matter. |

That David Cameron is a weasel is no longer in doubt. The monarch should not be confiding personal views to anyone in the UK system, though that is beyond humanly possible to adhere to. Another reason I want the monarchy gone. When and maybe if Charles takes over he will not do as well as Elizabeth in this regard. He could really be the last King of England or at least Scotland – though that movie has been made. |
