What are the best sources to go from when painting uniforms? Is it the Osprey books? Especially interested in Freeman's Farm/Saratoga.

Saratoga is a bit of a unique animal. Look at Don Troiani's "Campaign to Saratoga." Lots of nice uniform plates.

+1 to Extrabario. Brendan's Osprey book on the campaign helps too.

Don Troiani s book is the scource. He has been chronicling that campaign since a child. Also Perrys site has a uniform guide.I have also painted up Burgoynes army and wished I had these references before..would have made it easier..I have been to the battlefields,,very inspiring.

Uniforms of the American Revolution by John Mollo has been my go to book for years, and it has uniform plates for Saratoga.

All good recs. Don't underestimate the input on uniforms by Eric Schnitzer in that Saratoga book.

Molotov book can be found through the inter-library loan program. Great source on all but Spanish uniforms.

Saratoga is a bit of a unique animal.

If you're referring to the campaign and the battles, I'd agree with you as a British army was forced to surrender there to the Americans.

As for uniforms, not so much.

The best campaign study I have read on the subject is John Elting's The Battles of Saratoga.
