…Swords "From the battlefields of the ancient world, to wars stretching from medieval Europe to the Yuan Dynasty of China, to the Steppes of Central Asia, and to the Great Plains of North America, cavalrymen played a major role in military history…until the weapons of the 20th century rendered these shock troops, with their lances and swords, obsolete. The last major cavalry charge in history, with a large body of hundreds of traditional cavalrymen armed with sabers, took place during the Second World War. It was the charge of the Italian Savoia Cavalleria at Isbuschenskij, and it closed a chapter of history that had lasted for thousands of years…." Main page link Amicalement Armand |

Very interesting … they had a little luck on their side along with a little surprise. But yes, they were a war behind … The Italians in the East were no real match for the Russians in most cases. They didn't even have any of their "best" tanks with them, the M13/40. Wouldn't have faired that well vs. T34s, KV-1s, etc. But the lighter Russian AFVs, e.g. BTs, T-26s, etc., they would have been a better match for. They had a number of their lighter older AFVs there, IIRC, L3s, L6/40s and Sem 47s. But still not in that large of numbers. |

Of course using the terrain properly and again surprise. Along with the "Cav's" elan, esprit, dash, etc. Gave them the edge at least for a little while. Plus the grenades helped ! |
