"…The original magazine articles described Rhodes as made up of four 8' x 5' boards. Bearing in mind this was primarily designed for 20mm figures I have simply translated this to 8 x 5 of my own 9" terrain boards, or 6' x 3'9"…"

The snag of course is that there were not "Allied" plans for the Aegean campaign in 1943. It was a Churchillian concept, dismissed as an irrelevant side-show by Eisenhower and US forces refused to get involved. Rightly or wrongly, the result was a disaster for British forces. It is surprising that, this late in the war, the Germans could still exercise such local air superiority and mount airborne assault.

Extraordinary too to think of Germans still occupying Rhodes and much of Crete right up to VE Day. Beat the Russian Front I guess…..

Yes the UK did a number of small ops in the Aegean, with the SBS, SAS etc. The Germans did too including two small drops on Kos and Leos, IIRC. Including some some Brandenburg units.

account of the autumn 1943 battle for the Dodecanese, as Winston Churchill attempted to secure the Aegean islands in the wake of the Italian armistice. The occupation was a gamble intended to increase pressure against Germany and at the same time possibly provide encouragement for Turkey to join the Allies. Spearheaded by the Special Boat Squadron and the Long Range Desert Group, garrison troops were deployed to the Italian-occupied Dodecanese, but they were too late to prevent the Germans from taking control of the key island of Rhodes and its all-important airfields. An all-out German offensive followed. Air force and naval units supported a series of assaults by infantry and paratroopers, including specialist forces of the Division Brandenburg. Within three months, only Castelorizzo was still in British hands. Rhodes, Kos and Leros remained under German occupation until May 1945 and the end of the war in Europe. The Dodecanese would be Adolf Hitler's last enduring victory – and the last enduring British-led defeat.

But yes, surely beats the Russian Front !

I'm pretty sure Rhodes still is under German occupation, although our plucky British lads are still holding out in Faliraki to the last pool of sick.

Was it all the German beer garden in Rhodes that gave it away.

Nice; looks like a lot of effort went into that table to me.
