A new jumpstart preview for the forthcoming Harpoon V is a free download posted on the Wargame Vault. Harpoon V look VERY promising if this preview is any indication. 39 pages long, half of which is an extended example of play in a surface action scenario. This has me drooling for the full monte. |

I must be getting old. I am afraid it's not talking to me. But it looks very impressive, and I am happy for those who are going to be made happy by this. |

What is Harpoon V going to be? Harpoon (4+1) or Harpoon (4-1)? It would be interesting to see the team taking a step back on complexity for sake of complexity, and returning to some more playable origins of the game (I am a GDW nostalgic.) |

I've played since 2nd Edition and fell away when 4th Edition came out. It's simply too slow paced and bogged down in it's own attempt model everything at a level of minutiae that I just no longer enjoy. I had the chance to play with Mr Bond directly at a con twice- once back in the mid 80s in the early days of Harpoon and once a few years back at Historicon in Virginia. The first was a blast and led me to get the miniatures game bug that led to a life long hobby. The second got so bogged down that even Mr. Bond seemed a bit frustrated. I hope V recaptures some of those early days for me. |
