My preferred set for large battles is Tercio by Liber Militium. There is a link on the blog to a free version under the tab "Links to Rules and minis…" but here is another link, it takes you to Boardgamegeek where you have to sign in but that only takes a second link

We handle the skirmish sized battles with Pikemans Lament
