After German success in the last game now they have the opportunity to mount a counterattack. While there's little chance they have the force to push the Americans back, what they can do is disrupt their drive forward. The full AAR is here Counterattack at Arthenay

Read this on the blog site the other day and it was a change to the Germans benefitting from lots of double moves.
I have to admit my thought was why fight it out as there was almost nothing to be gained but I applaud your sticking to the spirit of the campaign. Anyway you never know when there's a Gauleiter watching your every move.
It was shame the leIG18 didn't get a chance to come into action – it's a favourite of mine.
I'm surprised the campaign doesn't enforce some sort of minimal engagement. e.g. the Germans can't withdraw until at least one core squad/section has been deployed and the Germans have taken at least one casualty (wounded or dead, not just shock).

I'm surprised the campaign doesn't enforce some sort of minimal engagement. e.g. the Germans can't withdraw until at least one core squad/section has been deployed and the Germans have taken at least one casualty (wounded or dead, not just shock).

The general campaign rules in At the Sharp End have a provision that covers this to some extent in that the rolls for men's opinion and COs opinion will take into account that the game was a defeat. The possible penalties that could impact later games could be a negative modifier on the number of supports available. As it happens in this particular campaign the Allied bombardment of Isigny has cut contact with the CO and so game results (positive or negative have no impact on his opinion until contact is restored). So the campaign system includes a built in mechanism to discourage bloodless counterattacks, however gamers being gamers the campaigns may benefit from additional rules to prevent anything too cheesy.
