Nice troops – I thought the Select Fyrd comprised the 5-hide man; 5-hides provided one fully armed man in the king's service, with mail, shield, sword & spear (& horse). He could be a peasant or a Thegn. These certainly fit my interpretation of what we call the Select Fyrd. |
